Backcountry 101
Optional Evening Meeting: December 11, 2024

Start your season smart with an introduction to backcountry skiing and splitboarding course led by local guides and avalanche professionals. We’ll cover common backcountry equipment, go over basic avalanche safety, and learn how to efficiently and safely use terrain. Reach out to see if this course is for you!
Recreational Level 1 Avalanche
Course 1: January 7+9 (evening in person classes), 11-12th in the field (Full)
Course 2: February 4+6 (evening zoom classes) Feb 8-9th in the field

This is the standard “Level 1” course you’ve been meaning to take with a SE Alaska twist! No, not just rain, local insight into the terrain and weather that you won’t find anywhere else. Come take the next step in your backcountry career with this three-day course.
We offer two course formats, one with two evening classroom sessions during the week, followed by a weekend in the field. As well as one where the weekday classes are held online using Zoom.

Level 1 Avalanche Refresher

Does your avalanche safety know-how need a tune-up? This all-outdoor weekend course will give you the refresher you need to keep recreating safely in the backcountry this winter. We’ll cover companion rescue, avalanche terrain, weather, identifying and avoiding hazards, and decision making.
